A Santa Rosa man was taken into custody after fleeing from deputies in a high speed pursuit on Saturday. At about 4:00 PM a deputy tried to stop a 2002 Acura MDX when she noticed the driver was driving erratically speeding and tailgating another car in the area of Stony Point and Todd Rd in Santa Rosa. The driver, later determined to be Michael Isaac, a 36 year-old parolee from Santa Rosa failed to pull over and began to speed away from the deputy on Todd Rd. near Moorland Ave.
Isaac entered the freeway SB from Todd Rd and reached speeds of over 100 mph in light traffic. Two deputies in Rohnert Park got onto the freeway. One deputy got behind the pursuit and one in front. The deputies coordinated the pursuit and attempted to slow Isaac down by boxing him in. This technique got him and the pace of traffic to slow down on the Cotati Grade.
As the pursuit came to a near standstill, Isaac drove to his right and up onto a dirt berm, nearly causing his car to tip over but managed to pass the deputy in front of him. The deputy then conducted a pursuit intervention technique where he used his patrol car to contact the Acura and spin it around at a slow speed. Isaac sideswiped the center divider and came to a stop, at which point deputies were able to take him into custody.
Deputies noticed Isaac had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath and appeared intoxicated. They also found an open container of rum on the driver side floorboard. Isaac was arrested for felony evading a peace officer, DUI and a parole violation.
The following day, Sunday, September 23rd Isaac’s mother reported that he had taken her car from her home without permission on Saturday morning at about 11:00 AM. She wanted to give him a chance to return it before she called the police to file a vehicle theft report.
An additional charge of vehicle theft was added to his booking charges. Isaac is being held in the Sonoma County Jail without bail due to his parole hold.
