UPDATE - Only report prank calls concerning serious crimes like shootings, stabbings, robberies, etc. to 733-2331.
UPDATE 8/8/18 6:45pm - Please only report prank calls regarding crimes of a serious nature such as shootings, stabbings, robberies, etc. to Teton County Sheriff's Office Dispatch at 307-733-2331. There is no need to report robo-calls, telemarketers, or other prank calls not related to serious crimes. Local law enforcement thanks you for your patience and understanding as this issue is investigated.
8/8/18 6:30pm - The Teton County Sheriff's Office Dispatch Center has and continues to receive multiple prank calls reporting serious crimes in progress. This practice is commonly known as "swatting" and is intended to cause disruption of the public safety system. Dispatch started receiving these calls at approximately 4:30pm on 8/8/2018. After investigating each one, the calls have all been determined to be false reports with no emergency existing thus far. The same apparent caller then began calling local businesses reporting similar incidents. Most of the locations indicated have been visible from town area web cameras. The identity and location of the caller are unknown at this time and the Teton County Sheriff's Office and Jackson Police Department are actively investigating.
If you receive a similar call from this person, attempt to gain the caller's number if you can, and report it to law enforcement on the non-emergency 307-733-2331 number. The best thing you can do is not overreact, as this is what the prank caller is hoping to achieve. Law enforcement thanks you for your assistance and patience while we work through this issue.
