Suspect Information:
#1 - Andres Sanchez, 20 year old Ontario Resident
#2 - 17 Year old juvenile, name withheld
Over the last two weeks, the Pomona Police Department has been investigating a series of robberies involving police impersonators that targeted undocumented immigrants in our community.
The two suspects in these robberies followed victims to different parts of the city and pulled them over using a personal sedan outfitted with red and blue lights. The suspects wore police clothing and had police equipment visible on their belts during the commission of these robberies. After stopping the victims, they inquired about immigration status. The suspects demanded money from the victims, threatening to call ICE and deport them if they did not comply. Each victim handed over cash, fearing they’d be deported.
Pomona PD Robbery Detectives immediately began investigating these incidents and were able to identify the suspects. Through surveillance and investigative techniques, both suspects were located and arrested by Pomona Officers in the City of Fontana, where they had just committed a similar robbery.
Incidents such as these are a high priority to the Pomona Police Department. Having someone committing robberies under the guise of a police officer is not only dangerous for the victims, but it erodes the public's trust of real police officers, which we work very hard to protect.
