Fire Hydrant Testing - May 16 through July 14

The Public Works Department is currently checking fire hydrants throughout the City. The program began May 16, 2017 and will continue through the spring and early summer until all hydrants are checked.

This checking involves turning the hydrants on and allowing the water to flow out of the hydrants continuously until full pressure is reached and clear water is realized. While it may seem a waste of water, this procedure is necessary to ensure fire hydrants are fully operational to help defend your home and business against fire.

The operation may cause sediment in pipes to be disturbed which may cause water to become cloudy or discolored. Please be assured that while the water may appear unsafe, it remains potable and is safe to drink.  Turn your faucet on and allow water to run until clear if you experience this discolor effect.

Thank you for your cooperation. Please call Public Works at 334-7660 with your questions.
