The Fremont Police and Fire Department would like to remind our community that all fireworks are banned in Fremont

Fremont’s public safety departments would like to remind Fremont residents, businesses and visitors that the sale, possession, and use of ALL fireworks are banned within the City of Fremont. This ban includes the safe and sane variety of fireworks that are legal in some other cities. The ban, in effect since December 1986, has helped reduce the number of injuries, wild-land and structure fires caused by fireworks in the City of Fremont.

The police department will increase patrol staffing in Fremont during the peak times of concern throughout the weekend of July 4, to maintain an active vigilance against fireworks use.

Penalties and Fines:

In California possession of illegal fireworks is considered a misdemeanor, which is punishable by a fine of not less than $500 nor more than $1000 or by imprisonment in a county jail for up to one year. If you are found to be in possession of a sufficient amount of illegal fireworks, you may be guilty of a felony and punished by a fine up to $5000 and/or imprisonment in a state prison or county jail.

In 1986, a Fireworks ordinance (9.20.010) was adopted by the City of Fremont, making it unlawful for any person to sell, store possess or discharge any fireworks, including dangerous fireworks or safe and sane fireworks.  Violation of this municipal code is a misdemeanor, but may be charged as an infraction.  Any person violating this section, could be assessed an administrative citation of $100 for the first violation, $200 for the second violation and $500 for the third or subsequent citation within one year.   Parents may be held liable for any damages or injuries caused by their child’s use of illegal fireworks.

How to Report Illegal Fireworks:

Please report any illegal fireworks Friday, July 1 – Sunday, July 3, to the Fremont Police Department by calling 510-790-6800 X3.  On Monday, July 4, Alameda County Regional Emergency Communications Center (ACRECC) will dispatch both Fremont Fire and Police enforcement teams to firework calls for service.  ACRECC's non-emergency number is 925-447-4257

We also kindly ask that you please not report illegal firework activity to our social media accounts if you are seeking a police or fire response.  While we do our best to our monitor our social accounts, they are not monitored by dispatch, nor are they set up in a way to handle calls for service.  Please do follow our social accounts for department updates and information throughout the holiday weekend.

Be extremely careful during the Fourth of July holiday weekend and throughout the summer months with all outdoor activities. The abundance of dry grass and brush in the area has created an extremely dangerous fire condition.

Fremont Police and Fire wish you a happy and safe 4th of July!
