Hit and Run Accident on M-40 Hwy.

Sheriff Joseph M. Underwood Jr. reports his office is investigating a hit and run accident which occurred on June 4th, 2014 at approx. 0844 hours. This crash happened at M-40 Hwy and Shavehead Lake Street in Porter Twp, Cass County, Michigan.

Deputies arriving at the scene found that one of the vehicles had left the crash site. Deputies identified the driver and his passengers who had remained at the crash site as Dr. Robert Monfore, 30 yrs old and nurses - Kristin Greer, 25 yrs old; Priscilla Shaffer, 40 yrs old and Nancy Schultz, 20 yrs old. Dr Monfore was traveling northbound on M-40 Hwy when the vehicle came from the west, heading east on Shavehead Lake Street. Monfore and a independent witness to the crash confirmed that the vehicle either stopped or rolled through the stop sign at the intersection. The suspect then proceed to cross in front of Monfore's vehicle. Dr. Monfore attempted to avoid the crash but struck the other vehicle. The second vehicle after being struck, took off from the crash scene heading east from M-40 Hwy, never checking on the passengers in the Monfore vehicle. Dr Monfore and his passengers were not injured in the crash.

The suspect vehicle is described as a Tan SUV, believed to be an early to mid-Nineties Jeep Cherokee with two occupants. The vehicle was struck in the right rear corner and should have extensive damage.
