Attempted Carjacking Arrest Made
On 01-27-2023 at 9:51 Officers from the Janesville Police Department were dispatched to a “suspicious activity.” The reporting person contacted the Rock County Communications Center stating, “there is a male trying to car-jack people” in the Wal-Mart parking lot.
Several officers responded into the area and eventually located a 73-year-old victim at the TA Express. Officer Todd Radloff contacted the reporting person and loss prevention at Wal-Mart. Officer Radloff learned the suspect of this incident stopped a red Cadillac and tried to open that person’s car door at 9:51 am. The suspect was unsuccessful in opening that car door and the vehicle left the area. The suspect went to the west side of Wal-Mart and stopped a second car at 9:53 am and “tried to violently pull the driver from the car.” The 73-year-old victim was wearing his seatbelt and un-able to be removed from the vehicle. The suspects shoe was left behind in the car as the victim drove away to call officers to the TA Express.
The video from Wal-Mart was extremely helpful in assisting Officer Radloff in getting a good description of the suspect. Officer Katzenmeyer immediately recognized the suspect from a previous contact. At 1:17 pm a citizen provided information regarding the whereabouts of Dallas Moore. Officers from the Janesville Police Department located Dallas Moore at the Super 8 Motel and took him in to custody just a short time later.
This type of crime is not a common occurrence in Janesville. A collaboration of good police work and positive relationships helped resolve this incident. Our officers maintain a positive working relationship with loss prevention at Wal-Mart. The first citizen reported what seemed suspicious and alerted us to the area before the victim called. The second concerned citizen reported the suspects whereabouts which was key in making an arrest and ensuring community safety. It is this collaboration and trust that helps us solve these types of crimes.
Fortunately, there were no injuries reported during this incident. The suspect is currently being held at the Rock County Jail for charges related to the incident.
