On Friday, January 20, 2023, at 1:27 a.m., deputies from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station responded to a local bar, located on the 26000 block of Bouquet Canyon Road in the city of Valencia, regarding a person with a gun/gunshot victim call.
Upon arrival, deputies located an adult male suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his head. Paramedics responded to the location and the male was transported to Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
The male was identified as 33-year-old, Deputy Jonathan Buchan. Deputy Buchan was a 3 and ½ -year veteran of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Deputy Buchan was off-duty at the time of this incident.
The investigation is being handled by investigators from the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau.
