IMPD Robbery Detectives and IMPD North District Officers Make Arrest in Serial Robbery Case

INDIANAPOLIS-From October 2022 through December 2022, IMPD robbery detectives have been investigating six business robberies involving a male suspect. In November of 2022, IMPD robbery detectives identified the suspect after the robbery of a Shell gas station as Damon Smithson. It was also learned during the investigation that Smithson had an active arrest warrant out of Marion County for robbery.

On December 13, 2022, IMPD robbery detectives observed Smithson exiting a residence in the 3600 block of Rural St. Smithson was immediately taken into custody without incident with assistance from North District Day shift. Detectives conducted search warrant and collected evidence believed to be connected with these incidents. Smithson is alleged to have committed the following robberies:
 

·       IP220103876 - Circle K - 9599 N. Meridian St, Indpls, IN - 10/19/2022

·       IP220105501 - Speedway - 5990 E. 71st St, Indpls, IN - 10/24/2022

·       IP220113837 - Speedway - 6198 Allisonville Rd, Indpls, IN - 11/17/2022

·       IP220117425 - Shell - 5020 E 62nd St, Indpls, IN - 11/28/2022

·       IP220120074 - CVS - 2330 E 46th St, Indpls, IN - 12/06/2022

·       IP220120745 - Family Dollar - 5135 N Keystone Ave, Indpls, IN - 12/08/2022
 

The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office (MCPO) will make the final charging decisions.
