SUSPECTS ARRESTED AFTER STEALING PURSE AT GROCERY STORE
Police officers located and arrested suspects responsible for stealing a victim’s purse while she was shopping at Safeway.
San Mateo, CA – On November 23, 2022 at 1:22 p.m., San Mateo Police Department officers were called to Safeway located 1655 S El Camino Real on report of a theft that occurred at 1:17 p.m. Officers learned the victim was grocery shopping when the suspects stole her purse and wallet from her shopping cart. Utilizing tracking technology provided by the victim, the officers tracked the suspects’ movements around San Mateo and later learned they committed additional crimes at CVS Pharmacy (77 Bovet Road) and Nordstrom (130 Hillsdale Shopping Center). As the suspects were traveling on Hillsdale Blvd toward Highway 101, officers located a red Honda Accord trying to avoid police detection. Security footage obtained by officers confirmed the occupants of the car were the same people who stole the purse and wallet, and who committed additional thefts at CVS Pharmacy and Nordstrom. The occupants of the car were arrested and later booked to San Mateo County Jail on a multitude of charges. Officers later located the victim’s property, which was discarded by the suspects into a storm drain.
This investigation is a great example of community-police collaboration to bring suspects to justice. During this holiday season, we must remain ever-vigilant. While shopping, keep your valuables close and keep your head on a swivel looking for unusual behavior. As a reminder for our community, if you see something suspicious, call the police immediately with specific information about what is happening.
