**UPD ARREST MADE** #LASD Deputy Recruit Class Struck by Moving Vehicle

Yesterday, November 16, 2022, at approximately 3:15 P.M., Nicholas Joseph Gutierrez (Booking# 6492100) was arrested by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and charged with attempted murder on a peace officer(s), additional charges pending.  At this time, no bail has been granted.
 
Homicide investigators are continuing their investigation and will share additional information as it becomes available. Homicide investigators intend to present this case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office this Friday for filing considerations.  
 
The Sheriff’s Department would like to thank the Los Angeles County Fire Department, the California Highway Patrol, the incredible medical staffs who are caring for our injured personnel, the other agencies that assisted in this investigation, and the outpouring of love and support we have experienced from the community.

PRESS RELEASE FOLLOWS                             


The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department and the California Highway Patrol are conducting a joint investigation into the incident that occurred near the intersection of Mills Avenue and Telegraph Road in the city Whittier, involving recruits from Sheriff's Academy Class #464 and a civilian motorist.
 
At this time, several recruits still remain in critical condition and several recruits suffered non-life-
threatening injuries. We are hoping for all involved to have a full and speedy recovery.
 
The Department would like to thank the community for the continued outpouring of support and prayers received for all affected.
 
We are unable to provide any additional information as
the investigation is ongoing. An update will be provided at a later time.

LOCATION: 10600 Block of Mills Avenue, Whittier
 
VICTIM:   Multiple
 
SUSPECT:  Driver Detained
 
UNIT: Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Training Bureau
 
Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputy Recruit class assigned to the STARS Center Training Academy, Whittier, were struck by a moving vehicle at approximately 6:26 am on the 10600 block of Mills Avenue during their run while on training.  There were multiple injuries, and all victims were transported to local hospitals for further treatment.  Currently, it is unknown the severity of their injuries.  The vehicle's driver that struck the recruits was detained pending further investigation.
