**UPD**#LASD Homicide Detectives Responding to a Deputy Involved Shooting, 200 block of Towne Center Drive #Compton

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide investigators are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding a deputy involved shooting of a male adult.

Deputies from Compton Sheriff’s Station responded to the 2000 block of Santa Fe Avenue in the city of Compton regarding a person with a knife call.

The incident occurred on Thursday, November 3, 2022 at approximately 12:13 p.m.

When deputies arrived at the location, they were informed that the suspect had swung the hatchet at the victim. The victim was able to move away without being struck.

As the deputies began searching the area for the suspect, he was located in the area of the Compton Town Center Plaza.  As deputies observed the suspect approaching one of the shopping stores still with the hatchet in hand, a deputy involved shooting occurred.

There was only one shooter deputy and the hatchet was recovered at the scene.

The suspect was transported to a local hospital, but was subsequently pronounced deceased.

The suspect was a Hispanic male between the ages of 45-50.

There are no outstanding suspects.
