Kern County Sheriff’s Office is investigating shootings in Wasco.
Deputies in the Wasco area responded to a shooting that occurred on October 11, 2022, at about 6:38 p.m. on the 1000 block of Birch Avenue in Wasco. An adult male victim was located with a single non-life-threatening gunshot wound and transported to the hospital and treated for his injuries.
On October 12, 2022, at approximately 12:02 a.m. deputies in Wasco received a report of shots fired and responded to Poplar Avenue and First Street where it was later determined that a victim was shot at but not struck. His vehicle and vehicles parked nearby sustained damage, but there were no injuries.
October 12, 2022, at about 6:30 p.m. Wasco deputies responded to the 800 block of 7th Street for a report of a victim of a shooting suffering from a single gunshot wound that was later determined to be accidental and self-inflicted. This was a separate and non-related incident.
Based on our investigations regarding these incidents, we have found no credible threats to schools, parks or any specific activities.
Local deputies are working closely with school and city officials in Wasco in the event that the school(s) choose to resume extra-curricular activities. Our deputies have discussed the possibility of increased presence out of an abundance of caution and in direct response to community requests.
KCSO will continue to respond to calls for service and investigate all crimes that occur within our service area. As always, public safety is a top priority.
