Pursuit leads to the return of a stolen vehicle
On Tuesday, October 4, 2022, at approximately 11:49 PM, an officer observed two vehicles- a dark colored Audi and a Honda Accord- traveling closely together on Main Street in Whitehouse Station, with the second having a loud exhaust. The officer attempted to stop the Honda and it fled onto US Hwy 22, with the other vehicle traveling onto Oldwick Road. The pursuit terminated on US Hwy 22 near Merck Drive and Enjel Rodriguez, of Newark, NJ, was taken into custody without incident. Rodriguez was charged with eluding, unlawful possession of a weapon, and conspiracy. Shortly after Rodriguez was taken into custody, patrol was notified of a motor vehicle theft of a dark colored Audi that had just occurred on Hilltop Road.
At headquarters, officers were preparing to release Rodriguez to a friend. To the astonishment of the officers, the friend, Rahim Irish, of Newark, NJ, had arrived driving the vehicle that was stolen from Hilltop Road. Irish was taken into custody and was charged with receiving stolen property.
The filing of charges is merely one step in the process. A defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
