IMPD homicide detectives arrest suspect for his alleged role in the homicide of his estranged wife.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) homicide detectives arrested 30-year-old Marcelus Teasley for his alleged role in murder of his estranged wife, 35-year-old La’Shelle Teasley.

On Wednesday, August 24, 2022, just before 6:30 a.m., IMPD East District officers were dispatched to the 900 block of N. Tuxedo St., on a report of a person shot. Officers arrived and located La’Shelle, lying in the middle of street at this location, who sustained injuries consistent with a gunshot wound(s). Indianapolis Fire Department (IFD) arrived and unfortunately pronounced La’Shelle deceased at the scene.

IMPD homicide detectives responded to the scene and began their investigation. Detectives were able to identify Marcelus as the suspect. Marcelus was still on scene inside a residence refusing to surrender and was believed to be possibly armed. IMPD’s Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit responded to the scene to assist with the barricaded suspect. Once SWAT was on scene, Marcelus existed the residence and was immediately taken into custody without further incident.

Preliminary information led investigators to believe a domestic disturbance over a firearm occurred before the shooting incident took place. Marcelus was arrested for murder and serious violent felon.

IMPD’s Victim’s Assistant Unit, Chaplain’s Office, and the Indy Champions for Domestic Violence Prevention (ICDVP) responded to provide additional support to those impacted by this incident. IMPD’s Event Response Group (ERG) and SWAT responded for added safety measures and to help with the large crowd.

The Indianapolis-Marion County Forensic Services Agency responded to identify and collect potential forensic evidence.

The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office (MCPO) will make the final charging decision.
