INCIDENT: Fatal Traffic Collision
LOCATION: US Hwy 395/Cactus Road, Adelanto
Driver #1: Erika Romero-Aguilar, 38 years-old, resident of Adelanto
Driver #2: Marty Sparling, 59 years-old, resident of Adelanto (Deceased)
SUMMARY: On Saturday, August 6, 2022, at 10:21 p.m., deputies from the Victor Valley Sheriff’s Station responded to a 911 call of a traffic collision at the intersection of US Hwy 395 and Cactus Road, in Adelanto.
Deputy L. Torres of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department's Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T) responded to conduct the investigation. Through the investigation it was learned that Marty Sparling was riding his bicycle across US Hwy 395 when he was struck by a 2008 Lincoln Navigator. Sparling was transferred to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the Lincoln Navigator left the scene.
Deputies were able to identify the vehicle by a California license plate left at the scene. Further investigation identified Erika Romero-Aguilar as the driver of the vehicle. The whereabouts of Romero-Aguilar are unknown. The 2008 Lincoln Navigator was found abandoned at Pilot Truck Stop in Hesperia.
The investigation is ongoing. A photo of Erika Romero-Aguilar is being released and anyone with information regarding her whereabouts is asked to contact Deputy L.
