ARREST: Windsor Man Arrested for Theft from Former Employer

On July 6, 2022, at 7:00 a.m., the Santa Rosa Police Department was contacted by an employee of a Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning company (HVAC) in the 2800 block of Duke Court about recent thefts. The employee stated there had been thefts over the past five months and estimated that 150 to 200 Nest Thermostats had been stolen from the business. The company believed the thefts were committed by an employee. The value of the stolen items was approximately $35,000.
On July 6, 2022, the company noticed that another box of Nest Thermostats had been stolen (12 units total). The company was able to track this box. The value of these items was $2,112. Based on the information provided by the company, the SRPD patrol officer authored a search warrant for a residence in the 1100 block of Kidd Rd in Windsor. The company said this was the residence of a former employee.
On July 6, 2022, at 10:50 p.m., as SRPD officers and detectives were about to serve the search warrant, Zachary Lane Uchytil walked outside of his residence and was detained by officers. Uchytil is a 26-year-old Windsor resident. Officers and detectives then served the search warrant on Uchytil’s residence. Evidence of the thefts was located.  Based on a thorough investigation, Uchytil was arrested and booked into the Sonoma County Jail for the following charges:
459 PC – (Felony) Burglary
496(a) PC – (Felony) Possession of Stolen Property
