Santa Rosa Couple Arrested for Firearm Manufacturing and Unlawful Possession

In mid-April 2022, detectives from the Santa Rosa Police Department’s Property Crimes Team began an investigation into a suspected firearms trafficker operating in Santa Rosa. Throughout the investigation, Property Crimes Detectives developed information that an adult male suspect was importing illegal firearms parts into Santa Rosa from outside the United States. Detectives identified the suspect as Benjamin Tran, a 31-year-old Santa Rosa resident, based on their thorough investigation.
Property Crimes detectives obtained a search warrant for Tran and his residence to locate additional evidence in their firearms trafficking investigation. On April 26, 2022, at 5:15 p.m., detectives and patrol officers went to the 2300-block of Summercreek Drive, Santa Rosa, to serve the search warrant. Detectives located Tran walking his dog outside his residence and immediately detained him. Shortly after detaining Tran, his girlfriend arrived home and was also detained. Tran’s girlfriend, Elizabeth Gordon, a 40-year-old Santa Rosa resident, had a loaded semi-automatic firearm concealed in her purse.
During the search warrant service, detectives learned Tran used a 3-D printer to manufacture high-capacity magazines, firearms, and firearm parts, from his home. Tran had 13 firearms, 10 of which were illegally possessed based on California gun laws.  Many handguns were Polymer 80 (ghost guns), which also lacked identifying serial numbers.  Detectives also seized a Glock switch, which converts a handgun into a fully automatic machine gun. Additionally, detectives seized a silencer, molds & templates for manufacturing firearms, computers, and a 3D printer.
Tran was arrested and booked into the Sonoma County Jail for the following charges;
32625(A) PC – (Felony) Possession of a Machine Gun
