On April 13, 2022 Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Major Crimes Bureau- Burglary Robbery Task Force (BRTF) Detectives arrested Julian Gutierrez in Inglewood, California. Gutierrez is suspected in one robbery at the Nike Store in East Los Angeles, as well as multiple “Grab and Go” style retail thefts which occurred from February through April of this year. At the time of his arrest, Suspect Gutierrez had several thousand dollars’ worth of new clothing in his vehicle. The clothing had tags and security devices still attached. Losses from the Nike store are estimated at over $150,000.00.
Detectives believe Gutierrez commits his crimes as part of a larger “crew” of thieves and utilizes juveniles to assist in commission of the crimes. At least one male juvenile is currently in custody related to the Nike Store thefts and is suspected in many others.
Suspect Gutierrez admitted to several recent “Grab and Go” thefts in the Southern California region, including thefts from Ross Dress for Less Stores in Huntington Park and Downtown Los Angeles. BRTF Detectives are working closely with East Los Angeles, and Burbank to determine how many additional crimes Suspect Gutierrez and his "crew" may be responsible for.
At the time of arrest, Suspect Gutierrez was out of custody on court ordered “ankle monitoring” as a result of a late 2021 Robbery arrest, as well as out of custody on his “Own Recognizance” resulting from an early February Grand Theft arrest in Torrance.
Today, he was booked into the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s East Los Angeles Station for Robbery (211 PC) and Grand Theft (487a PC) and is being held on $55,000.00 bail.He is expected to be arraigned on Friday, April 15th, 2022, at Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice Center Downtown Los Angeles.
The LASD MCB BRTF was formed over ten years ago to combat the ever-increasing trend of organized crews who are committing residential burglaries, retail “Smash and Grab/Grab and Go” thefts, along with violent robbery crime trends.The MCB BRTF works closely in support of all LASD station’s detective bureaus, as well as other Southern California law enforcement agencies.Residents and business owners are reminded to secure their properties, be aware of suspicious and unusual persons or vehicles, and to alert their local law enforcement immediately if suspicious activity is observed.
