Ontario Police Department was involved in a vehicle pursuit that led to an officer involved shooting in Riverside County. 

The incident began on April 4th, 2022, at 6:10 PM, when an Ontario Police Officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a stolen vehicle near Haven Avenue and Francis Street, in the City of Ontario. The driver failed to stop and led officers on a pursuit. During the pursuit the suspect used the vehicle to ram Ontario Police vehicles. At that time, an officer involved shooting occurred in which Ontario Police Officers fired their weapons, striking the driver. The termination point of the pursuit was Bain Street and Limonite Avenue, in Riverside County. 
 
Officers on scene performed life saving measures until Riverside County Fire Department arrived, at which time the driver was pronounced deceased. The driver’s identity is being withheld until the Riverside County Coroner completes notifications.

The officer involved shooting investigation is being conducted by the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
