INCIDENT: PC 273a(a) Willful Cruelty to a Child
LOCATION: City of Mentone
SUSPECT: Ismael Flores, 29 years-old, and Araceli Teran, 28 years-old, residents of Mentone
SUMMARY: On Monday, March 21, 2022, investigators from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, Crimes Against Children (CAC) Detail and Yucaipa Station, conducted an investigation regarding a four-year-old male victim who was admitted to Loma Linda University Medical Center (LLUMC) with severe injuries. Doctors at LLUMC determined the injuries were caused by non-accidental trauma, consistent with child abuse.
Through investigation, detectives determined Ismael Flores and Araceli Teran caused the injuries to the victim. At the conclusion of the investigation, Flores and Teran were arrested.
On Tuesday, March 22, 2022, Flores and Teran were arrested and booked into the Central Detention Center. Flores and Teran were both held for violation of California Penal Code sections 273a(a) Willful Cruelty to a Child, with a bail amount of $1,000,000.
