Traffic stop leads to two arrests for weapons and drug charges

On March 16, 2022, Ridgecrest and Kern Valley deputies conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for vehicle code violations.  The driver, Lupi Esquivas was found to be on active Post Release Community Supervision with search terms for narcotics.  The passenger, identified as Krystal Steers, had an active misdemeanor warrant for narcotics related offenses.  Deputies searched the vehicle and located approximately 400 fentanyl laced M-30 pills, approximately 93 grams of fentanyl, approximately 30 grams of methamphetamine, a loaded handgun, live ammunition, and currency.  Esquivas (52) and Steers (25) of Bakersfield, California were both arrested for numerous narcotics and weapon related charges.  

The estimated street value for the illegal narcotics and controlled substances is $23,750.
