DETAILS: Ptl. Silcox and Ptl. Borup were detailed to Lowe’s Home Improvement for a suspect who was being detained for shoplifting. Investigation found that Anthony Hernandez had removed a set of ear pods from its package and concealed it into his pocket. He paid for other items, but not for the ear pods. Hernandez was processed at WWPD Headquarters and released pending a future date at West Windsor Municipal Court.

DETAILS:  Patrol Units were detailed to a shoplifting in progress at TJ Maxx. Sgt. D. Montgomery and Ptl. B. Heath were in the shopping center on foot patrol when the call was dispatched and promptly arrived on scene. Investigation found that Ronald Garner was in the TJ Maxx store filling a duffel bag full of merchandise. Garner then took the bag out of the store and placed it into a burgundy Mercury Grand Marquis sedan. Store security then observed Garner go into the Burlington store. Officers went into the Burlington store to find him. Sgt. Montgomery located Garner in an employee only backroom, crouched down, hiding in between racks of clothing. Inside of the car Garner was using, were several bags full of merchandise with tags on them from different stores. Garner also had an active warrant for his arrest from Roxbury Twp. Garner was processed and released after posting bail for the arrest warrant. He has future court dates pending at Mercer County Superior Court and Roxbury Municipal Court.

DETAILS:  Patrol Units were detailed to a residential burglary in the Old Mill Farms development. Investigation determined that someone had forced entry through a locked back door using some type of prying tool. The house had been rummaged through, but nothing was believed to have been stolen from inside. Detective C. Abade #processed the scene for evidence.

DETAILS:  Ptl. Buchanan initiated a stop on a blue Honda sedan for having dark tinted windows all around including the windshield, and for not having a front license plate displayed. During the stop, a passenger in the vehicle, Pedro Barreto, Jr. was found to be a “Wanted Person” out of Doylestown, PA. Barreto Jr. was processed at WWPD Headquarters and transported to the Mercer County Correction Center to await extradition to PA.

Arrested: Hassau A. Powell, Jr.

DETAILS:  Patrol Units were detailed to Wegmans for an active shoplifting. Prior to police arrival, the shoplifter had already left the store, but was being followed by store Asset Protection. Asset Protection provided the shoplifter’s location, and officers were able to take him into custody. Investigation determined the Hassau Powell Jr. had selected various items, brought them over to a closed checkout lane a few pieces at a time, and then placed the items onto the conveyor belt. After he was done “shopping”, he collected all the items together, and brought them to Customer Service where he attempted to return one of the items he never paid for. He was told he could not return the item, so he took the item back, gathered the rest of the items he had selected, and put them into a tote bag. He then went into the men’s bathroom before exiting the store without paying for anything. Powell, Jr. was processed at WWPD Headquarters and released pending a future date at West Windsor Municipal Court.

LOCATION OCCURRED:  Larry’s Sunoco, 3729 U.S. Route 1

DETAILS:  Patrol Units were detailed to Larry’s Sunoco for a 2013 Hyundai SUV that had just stolen from the parking lot. Investigation determined that the Hyundai SUV was parked in front of the convenience store, still running and unlocked. While the occupants were away from the vehicle, the suspect got in and drove away. When officers canvassed the area, they located a white Nissan delivery van disabled in the right lane of U.S. Route 1, approximately 150 feet north of Larry’s Sunoco. Further investigation revealed that the van had been stolen from Flemington, NJ, and had been involved in a hit-and-run crash there. Evidence found at the scene, led officers to believe that the suspect who stole the Hyundai SUV, did so after the stolen Nissan van he was driving broke down.

Robinson was processed at WWPD Headquarters and released after bail was posted for him.

DETAILS:  Patrol Units were detailed to Wegmans for a shoplifter who was leaving the store. Ptl. DeBlasio saw a suspect who fit the description of the shoplifter and detained him. Investigation determined that Ramadan Shabazz had selected four bottles of liquor valued at $201.96, and put them into a reusable shopping bag. He also selected some other items, paid for those, but not for any of the liquor. Shabazz was processed at WWPD Headquarters and released pending a future date with the Mercer County Superior Court.

Arrested: Gilberto Romero
                Resident of Hamilton, NJ 08610
 
DETAILS: Patrol Units responded to check the area of U.S. Route 1 south for a possible drunk driver operating a blue VW. West Windsor Township Emergency Services was following the VW and reported that the car was randomly stopping in the roadway. Sgt. Brodowski located the VW, observed it drift out of its lane of travel, and initiated a stop. During the stop, Sgt. Brodowski immediately noticed that the driver’s face and clothing were covered in blood. The driver, Gilberto Romero, provided a false name to Sgt. Brodowski, and said that he was attacked by someone at a party in New Brunswick. After determining his true identity, Romero was found to have a warrant for his arrest out of New Brunswick. He was also found to be in possession of small baggie containing cocaine. Romero was processed at WWPD Headquarters and transported to the Middlesex County Jail.

LOCATION OCCURRED:  Sunglass Hut, 3535  U.S. Route 1
 
REPORTING OFFICER:  Ptl. B. Caulfield #5107                
 
DETAILS:  Patrol Units responded to Sunglass Hut located in the Market Fair mall for a shoplifting that had just occurred. Investigation found that a male and female suspect entered the store, selected eleven (11) pairs of designer sunglasses valued at approximately $4,500, and quickly exited the store and the mall before officers arrived.
