Update from Mayor Bhalla on COVID-19 (2/6)

Below is an update on COVID-19 from Mayor Ravi S. Bhalla:      
      
The Hoboken Health Department reports the following new COVID-19 cases:      
      
January 29: -10 (new cases plus the removal of several duplicate cases from the system)      
January 30: 5   
January 31: 3    
February 1: 12     
February 2: 39 
February 3: 4 
February 4: 6

Since the pandemic's onset, the City of Hoboken has had 9,512 known, confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 61 fatalities.   
  
Hoboken University Medical Center currently has 11 patients hospitalized with COVID-19 and 3 are Hoboken residents. Of these residents, 1 is not vaccinated and 2 are vaccinated. These 2 vaccinated patients have not received a booster shot. 
  
Hoboken Health Department update 
  
The following is an update from the Hoboken Health Department:          

  • Cases are community widespread and associated with schools, daycare, social gatherings, travel, and work         
  • The regional COVID-19 Activity Level Index (CALI) score was downgraded from “Very High Risk” to “High Risk”

Vaccination rate update
  
Below is the vaccination rate for Hoboken:
  
All ages: 85% (first dose)
12 and over: 97% (first dose)
18 and over: 94% (first dose)
30 and over: 99% (first dose)
65 and over: nearly 100% (first dose)
 
All ages: 73% (second dose)
12 and over: 83% (second dose)
18 and over: 80% (second dose)
30 and over: 89% (second dose)
65 and over: nearly 100% (second dose)    
  
Financial support available for homeowners and small businesses
 
Starting on Tuesday, Feb. 8, at 9 a.m. eligible owners can apply for financial assistance through the Emergency Rescue Mortgage Assistance Program (ERMA) administered by the New Jersey Housing and Mortgage Finance Agency (NJHMFA). 
  
The program will provide up to $35,000 in assistance to cover mortgage arrearages, delinquent property taxes, and other housing cost delinquencies for eligible homeowners negatively impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. 
  
To qualify for the ERMA program, homeowners must meet the following requirements: 
  • Be a New Jersey homeowner with a demonstrated COVID-19 related financial hardship occurring after January 20, 2020; 
  • Own and occupy an eligible primary residence; 
  • Have an income at or below 150% of their county’s Area Median Income (AMI).

Free housing counseling is available to assist with applications. Find a participating counselor here. Contact (855) 647-7700 or [email protected] for additional support between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. 
  
Small businesses can also apply for grant funding beginning on Thursday, Feb. 10, at 10 a.m. through the New Jersey Economic Development Authority’s Small Business Improvement Grant program. 
  
The program provides reimbursement for costs associated with making building improvements or purchasing new furniture, fixtures, and equipment. 
  
A total of $15 million of Main Street Recovery Finance Program funding has been allocated to the program.  Of this $15 million, 40 percent ($6 million) will be reserved for businesses and nonprofits located in Opportunity Zone eligible census tracts. 

Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until funding is exhausted.

The City offers testing and vaccine clinics through partnerships with local providers multiple times per week at 601 Jackson Street and 605 Jackson Street. Appointments are required and they can be booked online at www.hobokennj.gov/vaccine or www.hobokennj.gov/testing.         
 
As an update, those who get tested through Riverside at 605 Jackson Street may be subject to a co-pay payment due to recent changes in the insurance market. If you are getting tested with Riverside and have questions about a potential co-pay, please contact your insurance company, and if you are uninsured, please contact Riverside.

At-home testing    
At-home rapid tests are available through the federal government. Every home in the U.S. is eligible to order free at-⁠home COVID-⁠19 antigen tests through the US Postal Service. Orders will usually ship in 7-12 days. There is a limit of one order of four tests per residential address.
