Juvenile arrested for allegedly posting school shooting threats on social media
On January 31st at approximately 5:35 pm, Pomona Unified School District administrators were notified by students and parents of a social media post that threatened to “shoot up” Marshall Middle School and Ganesha High School on Wednesday, February 2nd. The information was relayed to the Pomona Police Department Resource Officers, who immediately began investigating.
During the course of the investigation, Resource Officers were able to determine the owner of the social media account where the threat had been posted. A student at Marshall Middle School was contacted and later admitted to making the post as a joke. As a result of the investigation, the student was arrested for violation of California Penal Code section 422(a) – Criminal Threats.
Pomona Resource Officers determined the student involved did not have access to a firearm and at no time were the students or faculty of Marshall Middle School or Ganesha High School in any danger. Threats of violence against schools, students, or faculty are always investigated thoroughly and presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
The identity of the minor is being withheld and no additional information will be released at this time. The Pomona Police Department encourages parents and guardians to speak with their children about using social media platforms responsibly.
