UPDATE #LASD Homicide Investigators are Responding to a Deputy Involved Shooting Investigation, 2500blk Sale Place, #HuntingtonPark
Los Angeles County Sheriff's Homicide investigators are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding a deputy involved shooting. The incident occurred Monday, January 24, 2022, at approximately 6:08 a.m., on the 2500 block of Sale Place in Huntington Park.
Investigators have learned, at approximately 4:07 a.m., Century Station received a call of an individual on a rooftop of a residence at the 2500 block of Sale Place. When deputies arrived, they were unable to locate the individual.
At approximately 5:19 a.m., the Century Station deputies received a second call at/near the same location, of an individual on a rooftop. As deputies were responding to that location, the call for service was updated to “gun shots heard” in the area. When deputies arrived, they obtained information the suspect was last seen fleeing the area on foot westbound on Sale Place.
Deputies set up a containment of the area and requested an air unit to assist. Deputies then receive information the individual was back on a rooftop in the area, and additional gun shots were heard. Once the air unit arrived, they were able to locate the suspect who was armed, and started shooting at both the helicopter and deputies on the containment. During that time, a deputy assisting with containment was involved in a deputy involved shooting as the suspect was firing his weapon while on the roof top.
Special Enforcement Bureau (SEB) deputies were requested to respond to the location to assist. A second containment was established around the residence where the suspect located on top of the roof. At approximately 7:38 a.m., the suspect was taken into custody by SEB personnel.
The suspect is described as a male Hispanic in his late 20’s. He sustained a gunshot wound to the lower torso and was transported to a local hospital where he’s listed in serious condition.
A handgun was recovered in close proximity to where the suspect was taken into custody.
No deputies were injured during the incident.
No additional information is available at this time.
