Narrative:

On January 22, 2022, Thousand Oaks Patrol Units conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for expired registration.  The vehicle was occupied by Joy Thompson, Ricki Thompson, Sebastian Yciano, and Alejandro Gutierrez.

During the traffic stop, deputies observed items inside the vehicle which indicated drug use by the occupants.  Upon further investigation, deputies located numerous items of personal identifying information belonging to several victims from areas ranging from Paso Robles to Camarillo.  There were items found that indicated the occupants of the vehicle intended to use the personal identifying information to commit identity theft.

Joy Thompson was arrested for being under the influence of drugs, being in possession of personal identifying information with the intent to commit identity theft, and conspiracy to commit a crime and booked at the Ventura County Pre-Trial Detention Facility with a bail of $60,000.00 and a court date of January 24, 2022.

Ricki Thompson was arrested for being under the influence of drugs, being in possession of a controlled substance, being in possession of drug paraphernalia, being in possession of personal identifying information with the intent to commit identity theft, and conspiracy to commit a crime. She was booked at the Ventura County Pre-Trial Detention Facility with a bail of $50,000.00 and a court date of January 24, 2022.

Sebastian Yciano was arrested for being under the influence of drugs, being in possession of personal identifying information with the intent to commit identity theft, and conspiracy to commit a crime and booked at the Ventura County Pre-Trial Detention Facility with a bail of $60,000.00 and a court date of January 24, 2022.

Alejandro Gutierrez was arrested for being under the influence of drugs, being in possession of drug paraphernalia, being in possession of personal identifying information with the intent to commit identity theft, and conspiracy to commit a crime and booked at the Ventura County Pre-Trial Detention Facility with a bail of $50,000.00.  Gutierrez posted bail and has a court date of February 7, 2022.

Over the last several years, law enforcement has seen an increase in the amount of identity theft crimes being committed.  While good pro-active police work such as this helps combat this issue, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind citizens to be cautious with items containing their personal identifying information.  Some simple steps that can be taken to do this are to collect your mail regularly, do not leave valuables in your cars, and keep your doors locked.
