ORIGINAL PRESS RELEASE IS AS FOLLOWS:
Los Angeles County Sheriff's Homicide investigators are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the murder of an off-duty Los Angeles Police Department Officer. The incident was reported Monday, January 10, 2022, at approximately 9:16 p.m., on the 1700 block of East 87th Street in unincorporated Los Angeles. The off-duty officer was later identified as 27-year-old Fernando Arroyos, a three year veteran of the Los Angeles Police Department assigned to Olympic Division.
Century Station deputies responded to the location regarding an assault with a deadly weapon, gunshot victim call for service. When they arrived, they found Officer Arroyos lying unresponsive in the alley way suffering from at least one gunshot wound to the body. Officer Arroyo was transported by a patrol car to Saint Francis Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.
During the course of the investigation, five adults, three males and two females, were detained as result of various investigative operations related to the on-going murder investigation. Currently, none have been charged with the murder. Their names are not being released at this time.
There was a report of a second man suffering from a gunshot wound a few miles away from the original shooting. That man was transported to a local hospital and treated for his injuries. It is yet to be determined if that individual, or that shooting incident, are related to this incident.
No additional information is available. This investigation is ongoing.
