ARRESTS: Three People Arrested for Narcotics Trafficking and Unlawful Possession of a "Ghost" Gun

In December of 2021, detectives from the Santa Rosa Police Department’s Narcotics Team initiated an investigation into possible narcotics trafficking by two Sonoma County residents.  Two of the subjects involved were identified as Rey David Garcia (42-years-old) and Hilleary Zarate (44-years-old).  Garcia resided on Somers St and Zarate resided on Elk Ln, both in the City of Santa Rosa.  Detectives learned through the investigation that both Zarate and Garcia were working together in their drug trafficking network.
On Monday, January 10, 2022, at approximately 1400 hours detectives from the Santa Rosa Police Department served simultaneous search warrants at both Garcia and Zarate’s residences.  Garcia was contacted and detained at his Somers St residence and Zarate was located at her Elk Ln residence, upon service of each warrant.  Zarate’s son, Darrick Zarate (20-years-old), was also located inside the Elk Ln residence.  A search was conducted and following items were located and seized as evidence:
Located at Garcia’s residence:

  • Several individual baggies totally 3.5 pounds of suspected methamphetamine
  • 4 individual baggies containing 2.5 ounces of suspected cocaine
Located at Zarate’s residence:
  • Several baggies containing 8 ounces of suspected methamphetamine
  • 9mm "ghost" gun (possessed by Darrick)
Other items of evidence were located and seized at both locations that are indicative to drug trafficking.  Those items include several pieces of clean/unused packaging, multiple functioning digital scales, multiple cell phones, and cash.
Garcia was transported and booked at the Sonoma Jail for possession for sale of methamphetamine and cocaine, possessing brass knuckles and violation of probation.  Hilleary was transported and booked for possession for sale of methamphetamine and Darrick was booked for violation of probation for possessing a ghost firearm.
