South Brunswick Township COVID UPDATE - Cases Remain Very High, Mask Mandate, Local COVID Testing Date:

The South Brunswick Office of Emergency Management is providing an update on the latest information in reference to COVID, in an attempt to help our residents be prepared.

Over the past week, health officials have seen COVID cases continue to be very high in the Township. From December 31st to January 5th we again experienced a dramatic increase in cases with more than 500 additional cases reported. This mirrors trends occurring around the State.

Federal officials are bracing for U.S. infections to jump in January 2022, with numbers that could top 500,000 new cases per day. Even if only a small percentage of those people need hospital care, it will tax the healthcare system.  Officials hope that the peak of the omicron wave will be over by early February. Health officials believe the most challenging times will be the next four to five weeks.
Stay Home if You Are Sick – Do not go to work, events, or family gatherings if you are ill.

Wear a Mask – Last week, Mayor Charlie Carley signed an executive order requiring masks to be worn indoors to mitigate and combat the spread:

Effective as of New Year’s Eve day, the Township of South Brunswick has instituted an indoor mask mandate amidst the rising cases of COVID-19 due to the Omicron variant.
Masks are required in all areas of South Brunswick public indoor accommodations including, not limited to the following:

  • Government Facilities
  • Restaurants
  • Bars
  • Gymnasiums
  • Dance Studios
  • Recreation Facilities
  • Retail Stores
  • Cafes
  • Supermarkets
  • Places of Worship
  • Commercial Establishments
  • Salons

Residents, visitors, and patrons of the above public facilities must wear a face mask at all times except:
  • When actively eating or drinking
  • When socially distanced at least 6 feet apart from all others for an extended period of time, such as in an office setting when seated at desks, when performing for an audience or when conducting worship services.
Children under the age of three shall be exempt from the above requirements.

The mandate will be in effect until January 31st at 11:59 PM.
