UPDATE #LASD Homicide Detectives Responded to a Deputy-Involved Shooting Investigation, 2600 Blk East Dominguez St, Carson

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Homicide investigators continue to investigate the circumstances involving a deputy-involved shooting. On Wednesday, December 29, 2021, the incident occurred at approximately 12:59 at the 2600 block of East Dominguez Street, Carson.

Carson Station deputies responded to the location regarding a call for service for a family disturbance and a person armed with a knife and gun. When deputies arrived, they set up a containment of the location and began to do “call-outs” of all the occupants to exit the residence. Two family members along with the suspect described as female Black in her twenties exited the location. The suspect was armed with a knife in hand and a firearm in the other hand.

Deputies gave several verbal commands to the suspect to drop the weapons; however, she refused to comply. At one point, the suspect pointed the firearm at the deputies, and a deputy-involved shooting occurred. The suspect was struck several times in the upper torso and was transported to a local hospital, where she is in fair condition.

No deputies or other civilians were injured during the incident.

A firearm, as well as a knife, were recovered and the scene.

Whenever a deputy-involved shooting occurs involving Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies, and a person is struck by gunfire, multiple independent investigations immediately begin at the scene.  These include separate investigations by the Sheriff's Homicide Bureau and Internal Affairs Bureau.  The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department immediately notifies the Office of the Inspector General who sends a representative to the incident scene and provides independent oversight throughout the investigative process.  Once concluded, a preliminary review is conducted by the Critical Incident Review Panel to determine whether any immediate actions are warranted.  Every aspect of the shooting is reviewed by the Sheriff's Executive Force Review Committee.  Input from Constitutional Policing Advisors is provided during the process.  The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, Justice System Integrity Division, conducts a legal analysis to determine whether any criminal charges will be filed and if the shooting was legally justified.

NARRATIVE:

The female adult was struck by gunfire. Her condition is unknown at this time.
