... WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 AM MST SATURDAY...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN ALBUQUERQUE HAS ISSUED A WINTER STORM WARNING FOR HEAVY SNOW AND BLOWING SNOW... WHICH IS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 AM MST SATURDAY. THE WINTER STORM WATCH IS NO LONGER IN EFFECT.

* SNOW ACCUMULATIONS... 12 TO 18 INCHES ABOVE 7500 FEET... AND 6 TO 12 INCHES AT LOWER ELEVATIONS. LOCALLY GREATER AMOUNTS OVER TWO TWO FEET ARE LIKELY ON RIDGE TOPS AND WEST FACING SLOPES.

* TIMING... SNOW SHOWERS THIS MORNING WILL BRING SEVERAL INCHES OF SNOW TO WESTERN NEW MEXICO. TEMPERATURES WILL WARM SOME THIS AFTERNOON AND SNOW SHOWERS CHANGING TO RAIN SHOWERS AT LOWER ELEVATIONS. PRECIPITATION WILL INTENSIFY AGAIN TONIGHT AND FRIDAY WITH MOSTLY SNOW FALLING. SNOW WILL DECREASE IN COVERAGE AND INTENSITY SATURDAY MORNING.

* WINDS... SOUTHWEST TO WEST 20 TO 30 MPH WITH GUSTS TO 40 MPH... EXCEPT TONIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY ABOVE 7500 FEET WHEN SPEEDS WILL REACH 30 TO 40 MPH WITH GUSTS TO 55 MPH.

* SNOW LEVELS... LIFTING TO BETWEEN 7000 AND 8000 FEET TODAY THEN DROPPING TO VALLEY BOTTOMS LATE TONIGHT AND FRIDAY.

* LOCAL IMPACTS... HAZARDOUS DRIVING CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED WITH VISIBILITIES REDUCED TO ONE MILE OR LESS IN SNOW AND BLOWING SNOW.

A WINTER STORM WARNING FOR HEAVY SNOW AND BLOWING SNOW MEANS SEVERE WINTER WEATHER CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED OR OCCURRING. MAJOR AMOUNTS OF SNOW ARE FORECAST THAT WILL MAKE TRAVEL DANGEROUS OR IMPOSSIBLE. STRONG WINDS ARE LIKELY. ONLY TRAVEL IN AN EMERGENCY. IF YOU MUST TRAVEL... KEEP AN EXTRA FLASHLIGHT... FOOD...
