Petaluma Police Provide Tips to Prevent Package Theft

The Petaluma Police Department is starting to receive reports of package thefts. While the number of reports is down from last year, there are still many days left in the holiday shopping season. To increase the safety of your property we would like to offer some preventative measures. To protect your packages from being stolen, there are a few things you can do:
- Send packages to a secure location, like Amazon Lockers, or to be delivered to a friend or family member who is always home.
- SCHEDULE packages to arrive when you are home from work, then track their progress.
- Require a signature, or phone text notification.
- Always double check address instructions and be specific on drop off location (i.e., door behind gate, or down lane) as to avoid packages being left in the general vicinity of a residence and often accessible to thieves.
- Consider installing a package theft alarm.
- Consider installing parcel box near delivery door.
- Install a front door security camera or video doorbell and post a sign alerting the public.
- Install motion activated spotlights.
