On 07/02/2019, a shooting into a residence occurred on the 100 Block of East Pearl Drive in the City of Port Hueneme. At the time of the shooting, a family of five were inside the residence, including three juveniles. As a result, a seven-year-old female and her pregnant mother were struck by bullets. The seven-year-old victim was struck in the head. On 11/01/2021, the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office filed charges on Jaylin Edwards for his involvement with the shooting and issued a warrant for his arrest. Detectives with the Ventura County Sheriff’s Special Crimes Unit began a manhunt for Edwards, leading them to the City of San Bernardino. Detectives coordinated with the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department Specialized Enforcement Division for their assistance. On 12/01/2021, Edwards was located and arrested by San Bernardino Sheriff’s Detectives. He was booked at the Central Detention Center in San Bernardino for the warrant, which included the charges of Penal Code § 182(a)(1) – [Conspiracy to Commit a Crime], Penal Code § 246 – [Shooting at an Inhabited Dwelling], and Penal Code § 245(a)(2) – [Assault with a Firearm]. Edwards is currently in custody pending extradition to Ventura County with bail set at $1,000,000. After a lengthy investigation, all the suspects believed to be involved with the shooting on 07/02/2019 have been arrested and charged. The seven-year-old female victim continues to recover from her injuries. |
