On November 23rd, the Camarillo Police Department Community Resource Unit conducted a multiple location undercover Tobacco/Vape compliance check in the City of Camarillo in response to complaints received by concerned parents. Eight locations in the city were tested using decoys under the age of 21, supervised by undercover deputies, to determine whether or not tobacco/vape shops would sell nicotine products to the decoys without checking for identification. Four of the eight locations did not request identification and sold nicotine products to the underage decoys. The clerks who made the sale were cited for Penal Code 308 (a)(1)(a)(i) – Sale of Tobacco products to underage person.
Those locations are:
Old Town Cigars at 2173 Ventura Blvd.
Elegant Smoke at 330 Las Posas Rd.
West End Cigars at 459 Carmen Dr.
A&G Tobacco at 2172 Pickwick Dr.
Tobacco and nicotine vape related addictions are a prevalent and serious problem with the youth of our community today. The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office and the Camarillo Police Department are committed to the health of the youth in our community and will continue to proactively enforce laws prohibiting the sale of these products to people under the age of 21.
