Advisory

World War II era munition found on the Wildwood Beach.

On November 27, 2021 at 10:10 A.M., officers from the Wildwood Police Department Uniformed Patrol Division responded to the 100 block of West Pine Avenue, located in the City of Wildwood, for the report of a found World War II munition.  Upon arrival, officers spoke with a resident, who stated a munition was located on the beach and transported back to a residence in the 100 block of West Pine Avenue.

Accordingly, members of the Wildwood Police Department along with members of the Wildwood Fire Department responded to the area.  During this time, several properties on Pine and Maple Avenue were evacuated.  The Atlantic City Police Department Bomb Squad (Atlantic City PD / Atlantic County Prosecutors Office) was contacted and three members of the team responded to the scene.  The munition was identified as a 120mm projectile from the World War II era and found to be a live round.  Members of the Atlantic City Bomb squad removed the munition from the residence and transported it to the beach, where it was rendered safe.  After approximately 2 1/2 hours the area was deemed safe and all residents were permitted to return home.

The Wildwood Police Department would like to remind residents and visitors that if you locate any munitions on the beach or any where else in the city, please do not touch or handle them.  These munitions are dangerous and should only be handled by qualified personnel.
