The Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department’s Major Crimes Bureau (MCB) announces the arrest of Charlene Bohorquez, for possession and sale of counterfeit Covid-19 vaccine cards.

Major Crimes Bureau detectives assigned to the Health Authority Law Enforcement Task Force (HALT) and the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services received information from the United States Department of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), concerning the importation of counterfeit Covid-19 vaccine cards shipped from China, into the United States.  The counterfeit cards were destined for an address in the unincorporated portion of Whittier.

HALT team detectives, in conjunction with the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services immediately began a criminal investigation and they were able to identify the intended recipient of the counterfeit vaccine cards, Charlene Bohorquez, of Whittier.

On Friday, November 5, 2021, HALT team detectives, assisted by the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services executed a search warrant at the residence.  During the search of the residence, detectives located dozens of counterfeit Covid-19 vaccine cards and seized several items of evidence.  Upon questioning, Suspect Bohorquez admitted to detectives that she ordered the cards on-line from a vendor in China and that she had intended to sell them to people who were reluctant to get the Covid-19 vaccine.  The suspect also admitted to previously selling additional counterfeit Covid-19 cards in the past.

Suspect Bohorquez was arrested for possession and sales of a counterfeit or deceptive identification document.  Suspect Bohorquez was transported to Norwalk Sheriff Station for booking, where she was ultimately issued a citation to appear at Downey Superior Court on a future court date.
