Sheriff’s Homicide Investigators are assisting the Azusa Police Department with an investigation into the circumstances surrounding an officer involved shooting in the city of Azusa.

Today, Friday, October 22^nd, 2021, at approximately 4:50 PM, Officers from the Azusa Police Department received information of a stolen vehicle in the area. Shortly after, the officers located the vehicle in the parking lot of the location. The officers attempted to contact the occupants of the vehicle at which time the driver (suspect) proceeded to drive away. As the officers attempted to detain the suspect, he collided with multiple patrol cars and accelerated toward the officers and an officer involved shooting occurred.  
 
The suspect vehicle continued eastbound on Azusa Lane as it lost control and collided into a chain link fence and  entered a drainage wash.  The vehicle came to rest on its side at the bottom of the wash as Azusa PD officers contained the area.  With the assistance of their SWAT team, they were able to take the suspect into custody.
 
There was a female passenger inside the vehicle and she was also detained. 
 
The suspect and the female passenger were taken to a nearby hospital.
 
The suspect, described as a 25 year old male Hispanic, sustained a gunshot wound and was listed in critical condition.  The female, described as a  28 year old Hispanic, sustained non life threatening injuries which were a result of the traffic collision. 
 
A firearm was recovered in the area of the suspect’s vehicle.
 
No officers were injured during the incident.

The investigation is ongoing and there is no additional information available at this time.

NARRATIVE:  
Los Angeles County Sheriff's Homicide detectives are responding to the 200 block of Azusa Avenue in the city of Azusa to assist Azusa Police Department with an Officer Involved Shooting Investigation. The incident occurred on Friday, October 22, 2021 at approximately 4:58 p.m.
 
The male adult was transported to local area hospital. Condition unknown at this time.
