**UPDATE**#LASD Homicide Detectives Continuing to Investigate Deputy-Involved Shooting- West Ave B/ Sierra Highway, Unincorp Lancaster

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau is continuing their investigation into the deputy-involved shooting that occurred on Thursday, September 23, 2021 at approximately 4:53 p.m. The incident occurred at West Avenue B and Sierra Highway in the unincorporated area of Lancaster.

Detectives have learned that deputies assigned to Lancaster Station received a call for service at approximately 4:10 p.m. at the “Deputy Pierre W. Bain Park” located at 45045 5th Street East in the City of Lancaster.

The call indicated there was a male brandishing a firearm in the park and was pointing it at passing vehicles and park visitors.

An LASD helicopter flew overhead, saw the suspect get into a white vehicle and leave the location, and the helicopter began following the vehicle.

The suspect vehicle drove westbound on Avenue B into a dirt parking lot located at West Avenue B and Sierra Highway. Deputies utilized an armored rescue vehicle and made an approach on the suspect’s vehicle. At that time, the suspect pointed a firearm at the helicopter above and the approaching deputies in the armored response vehicle, and a deputy-involved shooting occurred.

The suspect was struck by gunfire and immediately treated at the scene for his injuries. He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

No deputies or civilians were injured during this incident, and a handgun belonging to the suspect was recovered at the scene.

The suspect is a male White adult.

The investigation is ongoing and there is no additional information at this time.
