**UPDATE**#LASD Homicide Detectives Continuing to Investigate Deputy-Involved Shooting- West Ave B/ Sierra Highway, Unincorp Lancaster
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau is continuing their investigation into the deputy-involved shooting that occurred on Thursday, September 23, 2021 at approximately 4:53 p.m. The incident occurred at West Avenue B and Sierra Highway in the unincorporated area of Lancaster.
Detectives have learned that deputies assigned to Lancaster Station received a call for service at approximately 4:10 p.m. at the “Deputy Pierre W. Bain Park” located at 45045 5th Street East in the City of Lancaster.
The call indicated there was a male brandishing a firearm in the park and was pointing it at passing vehicles and park visitors.
An LASD helicopter flew overhead, saw the suspect get into a white vehicle and leave the location, and the helicopter began following the vehicle.
The suspect vehicle drove westbound on Avenue B into a dirt parking lot located at West Avenue B and Sierra Highway. Deputies utilized an armored rescue vehicle and made an approach on the suspect’s vehicle. At that time, the suspect pointed a firearm at the helicopter above and the approaching deputies in the armored response vehicle, and a deputy-involved shooting occurred.
The suspect was struck by gunfire and immediately treated at the scene for his injuries. He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
No deputies or civilians were injured during this incident, and a handgun belonging to the suspect was recovered at the scene.
The suspect is a male White adult.
The investigation is ongoing and there is no additional information at this time.

NARRATIVE:
Los Angeles County Sheriff's Homicide Detectives are responding to investigate a deputy-involved shooting. The incident was reported Thursday, September 23, 2021 at approximately 4:53 p.m. on W. Ave B/Sierra Highway in the city of Rosamond.
The suspect was struck by gunfire. He was transported to a local area hospital for treatment.
No deputies were injured.
There is no additional information available at this time.
Whenever a deputy-involved shooting occurs involving Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies, and a person is struck by gunfire, multiple independent investigations immediately begin at the scene. These include separate investigations by the Sheriff's Homicide Bureau and Internal Affairs Bureau. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department immediately notifies the Office of the Inspector General who sends a representative to the incident scene and provides independent oversight throughout the investigative process. Once concluded, a preliminary review is conducted by the Critical Incident Review Panel to determine whether any immediate actions are warranted. Every aspect of the shooting is reviewed by the Sheriff's Executive Force Review Committee. Input from Constitutional Policing Advisors is provided during the process. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, Justice System Integrity Division, conducts a legal analysis to determine whether any criminal charges will be filed and if the shooting was legally justified.
