*UPD* LASD Homicide Continues to Assist El Monte PD w/ Shooting Death Investigation, 2600 blk Meeker Ave., El Monte
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau detectives are continuing to assist the El Monte Police Department personnel in the circumstances surrounding the shooting death of a male Hispanic adult that occurred on Monday, September 20, 2021 on the 2600 block of Meeker Ave., in the city of El Monte.
Detectives have learned, at approximately 7:35 P.M., officers from the El Monte Police Department responded to a traffic collision at the three-way intersection of Elliot Ave., Meeker Ave, and Mountain View Road in the city of El Monte. When they arrived, they discovered a male Hispanic seated in the driver’s seat, bleeding from the head.
Paramedics arrived and pronounced the individual deceased.
It was later determined the individual sustained a gunshot wound to the head and a handgun was located inside of the vehicle.
During the investigation, it was discovered a female, possibly an occupant inside of the vehicle, exited prior to the collision. She was transported to a local hospital and was treated for non-life threatening injuries.
The four occupants of the other vehicle, a mother, father and two children, were transported to a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries. Due to the mother being pregnant, she is being held for further observation.
At this time, detectives are canvassing the area for possible video surveillance and/or witnesses.
Although the preliminary investigation reveals that the deceased male possibly suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound prior to the collision, it is being treated as a suspicious death investigation. The cause of death will be determined by the coroner’s office.
