An unknown suspect fired a gunshot this afternoon for an unknown reason while at a local park before fleeing the scene in a vehicle. No one was injured.
On Tuesday, August 31, 2021 at about 1:29 p.m., our 24-hour dispatch center received multiple calls about a shot fired and a man seen with a gun running from Pardee Park at 851 Center Drive. Officers responded to the area immediately, and soon learned that the suspect had been seen fleeing the area in a vehicle with two associates.
The investigation revealed that the suspect and two others had been standing together in the park near the Center Drive side. A shot rang out, and immediately all three ran together towards a car parked near Kent Place and Center Drive. A witness saw one of the three holding the handgun as they ran. The three people got into the car and left heading southbound on Center Drive toward Channing Avenue.
Officers canvassed the area and located several unspent rounds of 9mm handgun ammunition on the ground near where the suspect and his associates had been seen standing. Police did not locate any person or object that had been struck by gunfire. Police are still reviewing surveillance camera footage from homes in the area in an effort to determine what may have occurred.
Witnesses described the suspect with the gun as a skinny Hispanic male in his twenties, wearing a black T-shirt with black pants. Witnesses described the two associates as a skinny Hispanic male in a black T-shirt and a Hispanic female with long, straight, chest-length brown hair. Both associates were also in their twenties. Witnesses described their vehicle as a silver Honda Civic 4-door.
