INCIDENT: PC 664/187 - Attempted Murder / Officer Involved Shooting
LOCATION: Rosemary Drive / Victoria Avenue in the City of Highland
SUSPECT(S): Ervin Olikong, 34-years-old of San Bernardino

SUMMARY: On Wednesday, August 18, 2021 at 4:00 p.m., the San Bernardino Police Department continued their investigation into the attempted murder of a San Bernardino County Sheriff's Deputy the day prior. The suspect, identified as Ervin Olikong, was seen in the passenger's seat of a gray sedan. The sedan traveled through various streets in Highland and stopped on Rosemary Drive. Officers activated their lights and siren, drove up to the sedan and used their police vehicle to pin the driver's side door closed.
Olikong quickly exited the passenger's side door armed with a firearm and began shooting at the police vehicle. Two officers exiting the police vehicle were immediately struck and were injured. Two other officers also exited the police vehicle and a lethal force encountered occurred. As a result, Olikong was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Officers responding to the officer down call immediately rendered first aid to the two injured officers and transported them to the hospital.
Deputies from the Highland Sheriff's Station and officers from the San Bernardino Police Department quickly responded and secured the crime scene as the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department's Homicide Detail responded and began their investigation.
Because of jurisdictional boundaries, the attempted homicide of the Sheriff's Deputy on August 17, 2021 is being investigated by the San Bernardino Police Department while the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department is investigating the attempted homicide of the two San Bernardino Police Officers. Both investigations are ongoing.
