Narrative:
The Moorpark Police Department and the Moorpark Explorer Post will be hosting a free “Save the Plate” event on 8/28/2021. The event will be held in the north parking lot of Target located at 800 New Los Angeles Avenue in the City of Moorpark from 9:00 am – 2:00 pm.

Criminals steal license plates for a variety of reasons. One of the main reasons is that the thief mounts the stolen license plate on their vehicle to help mask their criminal activity. The Moorpark Police Department and Explorers want to help solve this problem, combat crime, and help protect the residents of Moorpark and surrounding county areas. To accomplish this, Moorpark Deputies and Explorers will replace your standard license plate bolts and screws with stainless steel tamper resistant screws and fasteners free of charge. The tamper resistant fasteners will help deter would be thieves by making your vehicle’s license plate more difficult to steal. All you need to do is just pull up to our booth and let the Explorers do the rest. We will also be raffling off a custom cornhole board set built by the Explorers!  Additionally, we will be selling Big Brand tire coupons good for 2 oil changes and tire rotations, with 100% of the proceeds going to our Explorer post.

The Explorer program is a youth program for young men and women, ages 14 -20 years old, interested in a career in law enforcement. The program offers young adults personal knowledge of the criminal justice system through training, practical experiences, competition and other activities. Additionally, the program promotes personal growth through character development, respect for the rule of law, physical fitness, good citizenship, and patriotism. Our Explorers receive weekly classroom training, go on ride-alongs with deputies, volunteer in the community, learn about the criminal justice system, and attend a three week long Explorer Police Academy. The Moorpark Explorer program is self-funded and will gladly accept donations. Your donations will help provide the youth participants with uniforms, equipment, entry fees to events, and training.

For more questions regarding the Explorer program, please contact the Moorpark Police Department at 805-532-2700 and ask for Deputy Marc Riggs or Erika Salazar.

We would like to thank Target for partnering with the Moorpark Explorers in providing a location for this community event, and Grand Canyon University for providing event signs.
