Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau detectives are continuing to assist the Azusa Police Department with the investigation into an Officer-Involved Shooting.  The shooting occurred on Wednesday, August 4, 2021 at approximately 1:09 a.m. at the intersection of Glendora Avenue and Route 66 in the city of Glendora.

Detectives have learned that officers from the Glendora Police Department received a domestic violence call at a residence on Myrtle Street in the city of Glendora.  The caller advised that her boyfriend assaulted her and was armed with a handgun.  Glendora Police Department officers arrived at the residence and the suspect exited the home, pointed a firearm at officers and then fled on foot.  Glendora Police Department officers contained the area and requested assistance from the Azusa Police Department.

While Azusa Police Department officers were responding, they encountered the suspect, a male white approximately 20-25 years of age, in the intersection of Glendora Avenue and Route 66.  The suspect was attempting to carjack vehicles in the intersection when officers attempted to detain him.  The suspect turned and pointed the handgun at officers, at which time an Officer-Involved Shooting occurred.

The suspect was struck in the upper torso.  He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

No officers or civilians were injured during the incident.

A firearm was recovered at the scene.
