Hoboken Arts Commission extends deadline for art mural submissions
The Hoboken Arts Advisory Committee has extended the deadline for art mural submissions for Church Square Park and the Tom Olivieri Park (formerly known as Legion Park). The new submission deadline for artists is August 30, 2021 with selections announced on September 24, 2021.
The information previously shared by the commission is below:
The Hoboken Arts Commission is launching two additional mural projects at Church Square Park and at Tom Olivieri Park. The City of Hoboken, along with the committee, invite all artists to submit art proposals for these two projects.
The theme of the commission in Tom Olivieri Park will be “Play”. The Committee is looking for age-appropriate ideas to adorn this park with an inviting and inspiring work of art for the children who use this park and the caregivers who accompany them.
The theme of the commission in Church Square Park will be “Frontline Workers: A Time for Hope and Renewal.” The committee envisions this mural to honor the frontline workers who have helped up our city through the pandemic. The work can depict frontline workers figuratively or abstractly, with the theme of renewal and hope to be woven through the work, such as using a unifying design that includes flora and plant growth. References that tie the work specifically to COVID-19 and the pandemic are discouraged.
Selections will be based on relevance to the theme, quality of work and proven experience with similar type and sized projects. Artists must reference previous public art experience.
Selected artists will receive a commission of $6,000 for the mural project in Tom Olivieri Park and a commission of $8,000 for the Mural Project in Church Square Park. Commissions include artist’s fees and materials for prep, painting of the mural and topcoat. All submissions should be family friendly.
The committee invites interested artists to complete the applications by clicking the following links. Submission should include at minimum, a letter of interest, fully rendered design, a CV and photographic proof of a minimum two previous similarly-scaled murals.
