On the morning of June 22, 2021, a suspect entered Mountain View Tires in Camarillo.  He stole a car battery then fled eastbound on foot.  Shortly afterwards, the victims found him trying to install the stolen battery in his vehicle parked nearby.  The victims called Sheriff’s Dispatch to report the theft.
Prior to deputies’ arrival, the suspect fled on foot and stole a nearby golf cart that he used to continue attempting to elude deputies.  Camarillo Patrol deputies set up a perimeter.  Numerous Sheriff’s Office resources responded to assist with the search including detectives with the Camarillo Special Enforcement Detail, Camarillo Investigations Bureau, Ventura County Sheriff’s Office Gang Unit, Ventura County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit, and the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit.  Ventura County Sheriff’s Office Copter 7 responded to assist with the search as well.
After an extensive search, the suspect was located and taken into custody.  He was identified as Camarillo resident Armando Lopez.
Detectives recovered evidence related to Lopez’s crimes including the stolen golf cart and multiple stolen garage door openers.  Detectives learned Lopez also committed a residential burglary when he entered a nearby garage and stole numerous items from a local resident.
Lopez was booked at the Main Jail for burglary, vehicle theft, shoplifting, and resisting, obstructing, or delaying a peace officer.  His bail was set at $160,000.00.  Lopez is currently out on bail and is scheduled to appear for his next court date on July 8, 2021.
