LASD Homicide Detectives Responded to a Deputy-Involved Shooting Investigation, Piuma Ave. and Alondra Blvd., Norwalk
Los Angeles County Sheriff's Homicide Bureau detectives are continuing their investigation into a deputy involved shooting. The incident occurred at the intersection of Piuma Avenue and Alondra Boulevard, Norwalk on Wednesday, June 23, 2021, at approximately 9:50 a.m.
Detectives have learned that deputies assigned to Norwalk Sheriff’s Station were alerted to a large “Ford” utility box van that was driving erratically in the area by a Los Angeles Police Department airship. The deputies located the van and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. During the attempted traffic stop a male Black adult, approximately 30 years of age produced an object that appeared to be a handgun. A deputy involved shooting occurred.
Los Angeles County Fire Department responded to the location and pronounced the suspect deceased at the scene. No deputies were injured.
Deputies recovered an object that resembled a firearm. Upon further examination, it was confirmed not to be a firearm.
It was also discovered that the “Ford” utility box van the suspect was driving was reported stolen on today’s date, June 23, 2021 out of Los Angeles Police Department’s area.
The investigation is on-going and there is no additional information at this time.

NARRATIVE:
Los Angeles County Sheriff's Homicide Detectives are responding to investigate a deputy-involved shooting. The incident was reported Wednesday, June 23, 2021, at approximately 10:00 a.m., in the intersection of Alondra Boulevard and Piuma Avenue, Norwalk.
The suspect was struck by gunfire. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.
No deputies were injured.
There is no additional information available at this time.
Whenever a deputy-involved shooting occurs involving Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies, and no one is hit by the gunfire, multiple investigations immediately begin at the scene. These include separate investigations by the Sheriff's Internal Affairs Bureau as well as sheriff's station or Detective Division investigators. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department immediately notifies the Office of the Inspector General who sends a representative to the incident scene and provides independent oversight throughout the investigative process. Once concluded, every aspect of the shooting is reviewed by the Sheriff's Executive Force Review Committee.
