Narrative:

Two people were arrested in connection to an organized retail theft that occurred at Vons grocery store in Camarillo.

At about 9:40 am, the Sheriff’s Communication Center (SCC) received a call from Vons grocery store located in the 800 block of Arneill Road.  The reporting party told SCC a suspect had taken large bottles of liquor and beer from the location.  The reporting party provided a description of the suspect and the vehicle.

Deputies who were responding to the location observed the suspect’s vehicle leaving the parking lot of Vons grocery store and initiated a traffic stop.  A search of the vehicle revealed multiple bottles of liquor and beer, valued at over $700.   Vons employees confirmed all the items were from their store.

The two suspects were identified as Marcelino Gomez and Lorenzo Alvarez, both from the City of Oxnard.  Gomez and Alvarez were arrested for Organized Retail Theft.  In addition, Gomez was arrested for carrying a dirk or dagger and possession of a controlled substance.  Alvarez was also arrested on six local misdemeanor warrants.

Organized retail theft is responsible for millions of dollars in lost merchandise from all types of business, including grocery stores.  These items are then sold at a discounted price and/or shipped out of the country for profit.
