Traffic Advisory for Thursday, June 17 on El Camino Real: Special Olympics Torch Run
This Thursday, June 17, starting around 3:45 p.m., you'll see our officers participating in the Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run along El Camino Real! We will receive the "Flame of Hope" at our southern border from our partners at the Mountain View Police Department and the Los Altos Police Department, and our personnel will carry it north through Palo Alto.
Our personnel will be escorted by law enforcement vehicles, so expect brief traffic delays while we support this worthy cause. You can support it too: donate to Special Olympics at https://specialolympics.donordrive.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=donate.team&teamID=7200!
The Law Enforcement Torch Run is the largest public awareness vehicle and grass-roots fundraiser for Special Olympics. Known honorably as Guardians of the Flame, law enforcement members and Special Olympics athletes carry the “Flame of Hope” into the Opening Ceremony of local competitions, and into Special Olympics State, Provincial, National, Regional and World Games. Annually, almost 110,000 dedicated and compassionate law enforcement members carry the “Flame of Hope,” symbolizing courage and celebration of diversity uniting communities around the globe. For more information about the Torch Run, see www.sonc.org/LETRtorchrun.
Please come out and cheer us on as we pass by!
